Princess Cali is solid needle felted, using a mixture of wool fibers, in shades of pale orange cream blend and  pale pink begonia. All shading is done using only needle felted wisps of wool.  No paint or other coloring was used on her. The coral is real, used for support, as a seahorse has no legs or feet to stand on.
Princess Cali was awarded 3rd place in the  2007 URSA Awards,  presented by BearsandBuds.

Peggy Award - "Best of Show"
Ceramic Hobby Decoration
Professional Ceramic Artist Division
The Peggy Award is presented to the entry judged as
"Best of Show", chosen from the
Blue Ribbon - First Place winners,
Professional Ceramic Artist Division,
in a ceramic hobby show competition.
I was awarded this "Best of Show" for my precise geometrical carving on a 17.5 inch tall planter.  The planter was cast as a plain piece.  I drew my design on paper, then transfered it to the flat surface of the planter.  My design was then hand carved with dimension, not just straight outlines, into the surface of the planter while it was in the greenware stage, or still extremely fragile, unfired clay.  This piece went through multiple firings to set the layers of fired-on colors that are applied to the remaining flat surfaces.  The carved areas were then painted and antiqued with non-fired ceramic stains.  This was an extremely difficult piece to complete.  It was even more difficult, as I was expecting my second child at the time I worked on the planter.  It was completed only a few weeks prior to her birth!
I am very honored to have my creations included in the Thread Artist Guild (R) display at the 2007 IDEX Convention in Las Vegas, NV.
My award winning creation, "Earl E. Burd", was featured in this display at the 2007 IDEX Convention.
I created two new tiny Teddy Bears for the 2007 IDEX Convention, Jackie and Jeannie, my Big Sis-Little Sis tiny Teddy Bear pair.

Both tiny Teddy Bears, and their removable dresses, are crocheted from cotton threads.  Even the tiny roses and leaves on their little dresses are crocheted.
